Bio Hugh O'Gorman

Hugh O'Gorman was born on June 11th, 1965 in New York City's Mount Sinai hospital. He was the second son born to Marion Judith "Mimi" Holaves O'Gorman and Hubert Joseph "Bob" O'Gorman. His brother, Mark Martin, was 16 at the time of Hugh's arrival. His mother was a retired coloratura soprano opera singer, who studied at the prestigious Juilliard School, and sang on Broadway in the 1946 revival of "Showboat." His father was then professor of Sociology at Hunter College, Columbia University and the New York School of Psychiatry. In 1967 his father received an offer to found the department of Sociology at Wesleyan University. So, they packed up and moved from bustling Riverside Drive to rural Middletown, Connecticut, where Hugh lived until the age of 17.

Hugh attended the Independent Day School and then Xavier High School, where he acted in both their drama departments. In Middletown he was a founding and active member of the Oddfellows Playhouse, a youth drama program, and participated in plays at Wesleyan. But mostly he could be found playing soccer anywhere he could find a game. As a four year starting goalkeeper on the Xavier varsity soccer team, he was named to the All-City, All-County, All-State and All-New England select teams. He also represented the Connecticut State Team in interstate play.

The next four years Hugh spent in "gorges" Ithaca, New York attending Cornell University. There he majored in Psychology with a minor in French, and dabbled in the theatre department. He was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, as well as the Volunteers For Youth big brother program. Hugh was the starting goalkeeper for three years for Cornell's Big Red varsity soccer team, where he set a school record for most number of consecutive shutouts in one season. He was also named to the All-Ivy team.

But it was living and going to school in Paris, France in 1986 that lead Hugh to discover his desire to be an actor. Furthering his French studies abroad, far removed from the Pre-Law, Pre-Med, Pre-Business, "Pre-SOMETHING!", attitude that prevailed within the hallowed, ivy covered walls of Cornell, Hugh decided to explore theatre, his true passion, more intensely. Returning to Cornell with a "joie de vivre," as well as focused "raison d'кtre," he finished his degree in Psychology and began to take more acting classes, and participate in Cornell's dramatic productions.

In 1987 Hugh graduated from Cornell and was accepted to the University of Washington's Professional Actor's Training Program. He then moved westward and spent the following three years in Seattle studying acting under the tutelage of Jack Clay. In 1990 he graduated from the "U-Dub" with an MFA in Acting and moved back to New York.

Hugh lived for the next ten years in Manhattan and spent four of those years starring as Jeff Singer in the critically acclaimed, Emmy and CableAce award winning show, "Remember WENN" on the American Movie Classics channel (SAG Award nomination). Other television includes: Father Tim on THAT’S LIFE, Burly in the 10th KINGDOM, US Attorney Chuck Rodman on LAW & ORDER, as well as appearances on ONE LIFE TO LIVE, and ALL MY CHILDREN

Theatre credits include, Broadway: Brian Friel’s Translations. Off-Broadway: The Yiddish Trojan Women, Cloud 9, The Taming of the Shrew, The Tempest, The Time Of Your Life, Anton Chekhov: Stories From My Youth. For the Mint Theatre in New York, where Hugh was a founding member, he acted in over a half dozen plays, taught voice and movement, and directed The Harvest. He currently appears as Jim in Lemonade at the Tamarind Theatre in Hollywood. Last year Hugh portrayed C.K. Dexter Haven in The Philadelphia Story at the Court Theatre in Los Angeles. For the Bristol Riverside Theatre in PA Hugh played the lead in The Killing of Michael Malloy. He has performed as well in the Seattle Repertory and the Huntington theatres' production of Dion Boucicault’s The Shaughraun and worked in over a dozen regional theaters around the country, and spent seasons with the Montana and Idaho Shakespeare Festivals.

Presently, Hugh resides in Los Angeles with his wife, Nathalie Aragno, a French architect from Paris. Eh, bien, merci au dieu pour Paris!
